Back in the wonderful, wonderful world of DVRs, I know I'm behind the times here, but I enjoyed "V" :D It's no "Battlestar Galactica" from what I've seen. It's more a fun than thoughtful retelling of the original miniseries. But fun can be good! I liked all the main characters from the get-go, and I adore the main villain. I shall be tuning in for the foreseeable.
(I'm really disconnected from the buzz, is this "V" a miniseries as well? Or are they going to try and get a full on series out of it?)
And then there was SGU. Nothing fun about this one folks. My dad wandered through the room at one point and remarked, "No one likes each other, do they?" Unfortunately, the answer is yeah, no one likes, trusts, or cares for each other. As even a brief glimpse will tell you. ( Dipping into spoiler country here. )
I think we're going to stick around for a few more episodes (mainly for train-wreck curiosity..."how bad will it get?"), but I won't be surprised if we end up dropping SGU in the not too distant.
On the sunny side, this almost makes me glad SGA got canceled when it did. How horrible if they'd taken season six down this depressing path!

Hello, Dexter. I think I love you.
I think there are two things the show does, and does well, that keeps me in this frame of mind: (1) They are very good at protecting Dexter, making sure that, even while his character pushes the envelope of accepted behavior, he never crosses the line; (2) They don't insult my intelligence by ignoring or sugarcoating the implications of what Dexter does, what he is.
( Here there be spoilers )
So, long story short? I've got a new show addiction. :)
Oh! Bonus points! The supporting characters are awesome; there's a bit of a team-vibe going on within the police precinct; the brother-sister relationship is also awesome (Debra is ♥); and! it takes place in Miami! :D

Here's an irony: I expected no internet connecting issues at my tech-loving sister's house. ( But there's no wireless! )
And now it's time for cute pet stories! Otherwise known as ( Bandit the Cat meets Fanny the Bulldog )
Next up, ( cute niece stories! :D )
Another irony: When we visited Seattle they had a record breaking sunny-streak. Here in "sunny Colorado" they're getting an unusual amount of rain. It's the greenest I've ever seen it. Frankly, I'm loving it. :)
And now to answer those Top Five Meme questions you all asked (I apologize for the delay):
( Top 5 things you would say to a specific fictional character if you could. )
( Top five things you really liked in SGA... )
( ...and the top five you would have seriously changed/done differently in SGA. )
( YOUR top five Top Gear moments! :-D )
( top five moments reading fic and going guh! How is that hot? I didn't know that was hot. )
( Top Five things you can DO to fictional character (different characters please but otherwise yes, you can interpret it as broadly as you like ;) )
( Top five favorite minor SGA characters. )

I will say this, it's very much not like anything else on American television right now. Or at least (since I cannot come close to claiming I've watched everything on American television *g*), not like anything I've seen. The closest similarity I can think of is Japanese anime (the opening credits especially, if only superficially): the general dystopian air, the sense that a larger plot is unfolding just outside our current focus, the feeling that our main characters are going to change drastically as the series unfolds. These are all elements I associate with anime.
Or novels. Stories that have a definite beginning, middle, and end. (Dystopia not required, obviously. That just says something about the sort of anime I watch.) Stories that can start off somewhere disturbing and take you through to... something else. Not the sort of thing that can continue on for years and years depending on viewer numbers and advertising dollars. And not the sort of thing you can jump into midstream.
And "Dollhouse" is disturbing; drastically so. ( spoilers through 3rd episode )
Another view that I really enjoyed reading and that clarified things for me is post by,

Leverage: Had its season finale a couple of days ago. I have to say, the show's won me over. (It's coming back for a second season and I'm pleased.) You can't think too hard about the actual heists (the holes, they are there). But if you go in to have fun and enjoy yourself, the show totally delivers. Also, it's the most femslashy show I've seen in a while. I mean, the entire team is a very cool thing ( spoilers for this week and last, because I'm paranoid )
Battlestar: They lay the symbolism on a bit thick at times, and while I likes me a bit of symbolism, are we really supposed to think ( aaaand spoilers. for last week. )
Dollhouse: It's still disturbing and, for me, it's still managing to walk the tightrope. ( spoilers for last week )

Sarah Conner Chronicles: No spoilers in this. Second ep I've watched, and I'm not impressed. I like Sarah herself, I like the Terminator played by Summer Glau, I'm even mostly okay with the Reese brother played by the guy from 90210 fame. But the guy playing John Conner just doesn't work for me. He doesn't strike me as a leader (future or otherwise). And, since he's the driving motivator behind everyone in the show it's a pretty big problem. Plus, some of the lines were OTT and set chewing occurred more than once. So I think I'll give this one a pass from now on.
Dollhouse: I flitted through my f-list (and took
So yeah, dark. But, I've always liked dark. :)
I'm not going to fall in love with it. I've already heard cancellation rumors (though I've also heard the ratings were decent), and it is FOX and it is Whedon... But I'm tuning in next week.
Battlestar Galactica: I enjoyed it. It was pretty much one big info dump, but it was interesting info and it was well delivered. I'm still waiting for the ending before I pass judgment on its overall quality. But so far it's keeping me watching. :)

In other news, I've started watching Fringe. Anyone else into this show? I'm coming in late to the game, so it's all delightfully vague for me at the moment. It's got the bad daddy from Lord of the Rings as a mad scientist (with a heart of gold? I think?) and he's starting to win me over. (I feel a slight dissonance that the mad scientist isn't Rodney McKay, for no other reason than obsessive loyalty because he's far too young for the role, but boy would David Hewlett enjoy a character like this.) The guy who played the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks in "Dawson's Creek" (at least, I think he was from the wrong side of the tracks? maybe he was just rebellious?) is in it. It was hard for me to see him as an adult, but I'm starting to. And I like the FBI agent, Olivia, who I don't recognize from anywhere.
And!! I've watched through "The Beach" in Avatar!! :D ( spoilers! )

In a similar vein, I've been enjoying "Avatar" (just finished the first season). It's a well told story (the world building and the lovely balancing of the elements alone... ::blissful sigh::) with very likable characters, and a surprising amount of nuance for a cartoon aimed at pre-teens. (Also, a highly addictive love song. I've been humming it for days. *g*) And I love the way they've balanced the boys and the girls. ( vague spoilers for parts of season one )

Due to house-guests ::waves at Dad::, out of State travel, and a cat with a death wish*, I've been seriously behind in my TV viewing. I know. The horror. But it's a new season, and the husband and I spent Sunday logging in some heavy Tivo tiime (again, thanks to the cat with a death wish*). So I'm all caught up and eager to be opinionated. :)
The shows I'll be briefly opining on are: Journeyman, Bionic Woman, Heroes, Ugly Betty, Torchwood, and Stargate Atlantis. Beware spoilers! Um, from last week.
*Explanation of the cat with a death wish: There's not an electrical outlet that our cat doesn't want to lick, a ledge she doesn't want to hang from, and apparently, a wire she doesn't want to chew. Last week she chewed through our router's power cord. So our wireless internet connection was down. We could connect the old-fashioned way, but only one at a time. And since the husband uses the internet for work type things, and is working on a brief with a serious dead-line, my pettier needs took a back seat. But, glory and hallelujah, the new power cord arrived and I'm back in the 21st century again.
