Crazy-passionate or passionate-crazy?

Eurekaman!
So after picking up a couple of shifts and working, working, working, I got sick. :( Nothing dramatic, I'm pleased to say. Just the sort of thing where you have to haul a kleenex box around everywhere you go. But it was annoying and a bit exhausting.

(I lied; there was one dramatic part. I lost my taste!! D: We went out to dinner with friends and there was a lamb-burger with goat cheese on the menu (two of my favorite things, smashed together) and I didn't bother ordering it because I couldn't taste!! I went with pasta instead. Still couldn't taste but the texture was good... DO YOU SEE THE DRAMA?? I WAS REDUCED TO TEXTURE!!)

Being not in the mood to do much that involved thinking (I feel like I've been so detached from lj) I watched a whole heck of a lot of Joe Flanigan on YouTube. (An aside: A nice thing about fanning over two completely different actors is I can fangirl according to mood. *g*) I think I've seen just about all of his (many) pilots and have decided 3 things )

I also watched Flanigan's appearance on "Chelsea Lately" last year. He was very charming and such and Chelsea was very Chelsea and there was a moment where she asks him about crazy scifi fans who believe this stuff is real )

Giving SGA some love...

taking names
I've been feeling a lack of Stargate:Atlantis love and it's gotten me down. But! I refuse to go gently into that dark night! I will misquote poetry if I have too! Or... I could just write about something I love about SGA. Probably less painful that way...

Here's something I adore: The soldier/scientist relationship. They didn't invent it (now I'm wondering who did?), but boy they do it well. Currently there are two episode openers that are vying for my "most favorite episode opener ever!" spot. Unsurprisingly, they both illustrate the interplay between the soldier character and the scientist character and all the loveliness that relationship has to offer. all the lovely details to follow )

McKeller kiss
So I was skimming the comments on [info]xparrot's poll post, and I was surprised to realize I stand pretty much alone on an issue: I've enjoyed the burgeoning romance between Rodney and Jennifer and I think it's been well handled. Seriously...it'll only give you heartburn )

Someday, I'll learn how to spell "colleagues". (It has a ridiculous amount of vowels, you've got to admit.)

How I fell in love with Stargate:Atlantis

This post has been bubbling away in the back of my mind for a while now. Pretty much since the moment I tried to explain my new-found love for Stargate:Atlantis to a friend of mine... and failed utterly. :D Seriously, I stumbled and stuttered and it all ended in a lot of mutual blinking and a quick change of topic. Because, to be perfectly frank, I had no idea why I loved SGA so. I just knew I did. Of course I wasn't content to leave my SGA-love as the great mystery we will never speak of again. So I thought deep thoughts. These are them )

Even more importantly.... Happy Birthday to [info]seductivedark and [info]xparrot!! Boy, did you guys pick a significant day to be born! :D

Not great tv, but not offensive either...

I was reading this post by [info]cesperanza, and it was really interesting, and it made me think. But I also realized, I honestly wasn't offended by Whispers. I expected to be offended, I was braced for it. An all girl away team as the super-unique-show-hook? How could I not be offended? Here's how: have the female soldiers be soldiers; have the female scientist be a scientist. It's actually kind of easy (though sadly not done as often as it should be), and the show managed to do it.

Did the Atlantis Expedition bring a flag?

So I was reading (of course I was reading *g*) and I came across this viewpoint:  The Atlantis expedition behaves in the Pegasus galaxy as the British behaved in India circa 19th century.  They are, in fact, Rudyard Kipling on crack.  This... intrigued me.

eta: I want to clarify that this is a question I formed for myself.  It's a vast simplification (really, really vast) of one scene in a story (see comments) and I'm neither suggesting the author holds this view or wrote the story to pose this particular question.  It inspired me to think about the subject, but the question posed (and my answer, obviously) are all mine. :)

So I’ve been threatening to do this for a while (well, I’ve mentioned it to a couple of people anyway, but one of them felt threatened so...) and here it finally is: My take on the character Dr. Jennifer Keller. (Okay, to be perfectly honest, it’s kind of an ode...so you know, prepare yourselves. *g*)

Spoiler Warning: ALL of season four! (plus some of season three)

The Rodney/Katie Brown question

Having watched this episode a couple of times and spent far too much time than he was probably comfortable with hashing it out with my husband (we were trapped in a car, and I can be made of evil when I want to be ::mwahaha::), I've come to a conclusion.  I love how Carl Binder and Martin Wood and Brenda James and David Hewlett handled the Rodney/Katie Brown question.  Seriously.  Loved it.

Even though (actually probably because) it broke my heart.
